Privacy Statement

Our privacy statement contains information about the personal data we process and about our cookie policy.

Newsletters

The Dutch Language Institute is an easily accessible scientific institute that studies all aspects of the Dutch language, and provides information about it to language professionals, language enthusiasts and other interested parties. We share this information through various channels, including our newsletters (General and Terminology). We use MailChimp to send both newsletters and individual news items or invitations.

Profile information in the newsletter database

When you sign up for a newsletter, you decide what information to include in your profile in addition to your email address. To store the profiles of our newsletter recipients we use a secure database. This database contains email addresses and personal profiles that have been provided by the individuals concerned or that we have been authorized to include or supplement with permission.

The profile contains only data that we need in order to contact you or to send you targeted information (e.g. specifically for translators or language technologists). Therefore, each profile consists of at least an email address, and optionally a first name, last name, job title, organization name and department name. We use your data exclusively for (information about) the Dutch Language Institute, and do not provide them to third parties.

Right to rectify and delete data

You always have access to your newsletter profile data yourself (via the ‘profiel bijwerken’ (update profile) link at the bottom of each mailing), so you can view, complete or correct them.

We keep your data in our database until you indicate that you are no longer interested in our mailings. In every newsletter or mailing you will find a link to unsubscribe. Your data will then be deleted immediately. If you have sent us a message via email or an input form and you want us to delete that message and the personal data associated with it, please contact us via servicedesk@ivdnt.org. Your message will then be deleted.

Messages that reach us via an input form (e.g. a notification of a new word) are deleted anyway after a period of two years.

Right to object

If you wish to object to the processing of your data by the Dutch Language Institute, please contact our Data Protection Officer Griet Depoorter (dpo@ivdnt.org). Should your objection not be dealt with to your satisfaction, you may file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
