Thomas Haga studied linguistics at Leiden University. During his bachelor’s, he focused on comparative Indo-European linguistics. While pursuing his master’s degree, he completed an internship at the Dutch Language Institute (INT), where he primarily focused on the Dictionary of Contemporary Dutch (ANW). The dissertation that he wrote for his research master’s in linguistics discussed the traits and distribution of fricatives in Germanic languages.
Since 2019, he has been a researcher/linguist at the INT, where he works on a computational lexicon of the Dutch language, which houses the language’s vocabulary of the past 15 centuries. To link all the words from the historical dictionaries to the modern part of the lexicon, Thomas ensures that words are given the same form of entry and the same word class (uniformed data in the data infrastructure). In addition to this, he takes care of the pronunciation feature for all the words in the modern part of the lexicon. Thomas also works on the linguistic enrichment of a representative set of Dutch texts (13th to 19th century) for the NWO project CLARIAH+. As part of this project, he helped create the Tagset voor Diachroon corpusmateriaal van het Nederlands (TDN), which involved comparing and analyzing all the tagsets considered relevant for Dutch to create one single tagset that can be applied to Dutch from all centuries.
