Vince Liégeois studied Language and Literature, German-Italian at Ghent University. He subsequently obtained a joint doctorate degree in applied linguistics at the Université de Bourgogne and HHU Düsseldorf. His research took the form of a corpus linguistics and text linguistics based analysis of interindividual variation in audiovisual weather reports. He also specialized in legal linguistics and legal terminology, collaborating on various interdisciplinary research projects. Within his fields of research, he primarily works on topics including Belgian law reforms (2014-2024), optimisation of terminology, gender-inclusive legislation and the development of a Belgian-German legal language.
As a jurist-linguist at the Dutch Language Institute (INT), Vince Liégeois contributes to the development of a conceptual database of comparative law for the Netherlands and Flanders. This database will be freely available for policymakers, jurists, legal linguists and legal translators, and will therefore contribute to legal and linguistic research and terminological alignment. Initially, the project will be focused on labour law and social security law.
Aside from his work at the INT, Vince Liégeois also teaches applied linguistics at the HOGENT University of Applied Sciences and Arts and German translation at the KU Leuven. He is also active within the committee of the German-speaking Community for German legal terminology.
