Brenda Assendelft studied Dutch and Linguistics at Leiden University. She obtained her doctorate from the same university through historical-sociolinguistic research on the influence of the French language on Dutch between 1500 and 1900.
She has been working on the revision of the General Dutch Grammar (e-ANS) since 2023; in continuation of her involvement in this project, she has been active as a researcher/linguist for the Dutch Language Institute (INT) since 1 February 2025. Additionally, she teaches Dutch linguistics at the Leiden University Centre for Linguistics and is an NT2 teacher at the leiden University Academic Language Centre.
