Boukje Verheij studied Classics at Leiden University, specialising in Neo-Latin. She also obtained a higher professional education diploma in English Translation at the Instituut voor Tolken en Vertalers in Utrecht. 

Boukje has been active at the Dutch Language Institute (INT) since 2001, working initially as an administrative staff member, then as copy editor/lexicographic staff member and finally as researcher/linguist. In addition to being editor of the Dictionary of Contemporary Dutch (ANW), she became the dictionary’s project manager on November 1, 2022. She also helps to keep GiGaNT-Molex up to date: the modern lexicon component that Woordenlijst.org is based upon. Additionally, Boukje translates texts into English and edits translations. She was also the photographer for her colleague Vivien Waszink’s book Klerenwoorden en modetaal on the language of fashion. In addition to her work at the institute, she has translated literary fiction and non-fiction as a freelance translator from 2003 to 2018. For more information, visit Boukje’s website
