Mathieu Fannee completed degrees in Dutch studies and General Linguistics at Leiden University. For his his studies in General Linguistics, he graduated on the subject of computational semantics with a dissertation on implementing an algorithm to parse coordination in the Dutch language machine Delilah.
Mathieu has been working as a software developer for the Dutch Language Institute (INT) since 2010. He manages and maintains databases intended for the storage of lexica and corpora and builds applications allowing for these language materials to be accessed or edited.
Aside from these technical tasks, Mathieu is involved in historical research – mainly into Warmond, his place of residence – with a particular focus on the study of names. This resulted in a number of publications, which cover the local medieval toponymy in detail.
Mathieu has been active as editor of the historical professional journal De Hekkensluiter (part of the Historical Society Warmelda) since 2011, and of the newsletter for the Kastelenstichting voor Holland en Zeeland (VKHZ) since 2016.
