Griet Depoorter studied Germanic languages at Ghent University, majoring in Dutch linguistics. Her thesis discussed the acquisition of inflection and derivation in Flemish children aged 4 to 14.

She helped build the Spoken Dutch Corpus, which led to her work at the TST-Centrale (first employed by the Institute for Dutch Lexicology and later by the Union for the Dutch Language). The TST-Centrale was a knowledge- and distribution centre for Dutch digital language resources.
Griet has been a linguist at the Dutch Language Institute (INT) since 2018. Among other activities, she works on connecting entries from the GiGaNT-Molex file (the master file of the Woordenlijst Nederlandse Taal) to entries from the Dictionary of Contemporary Dutch (ANW) and the Dictionary of the Dutch Language (WNT). Additionally, she is involved in the further development of the Corpus of Contemporary Dutch (CHN). For this project, she collects (meta)data and contributes to the conversion of data to the TEI-format that is used in the CHN.
