Carole Tiberius studied French and Russian at the Hoger Instituut voor Vertalers en Tolken (1992) in Antwerp and Language, Speech and Computer Science at the Catholic University of Nijmegen (1995, with honours). She obtained her doctorate at the University of Brighton in 2001, through research into multilingual lexical representation. Prior to her professional employment at the Dutch Language Institute (INT) in 2006, she worked as a linguist at the Surrey Morphology Group at the University of Surrey.
At the INT, Carole works as a computational linguist. In this capacity, she is involved in contemporary lexicographical projects such as the Dictionary of Contemporary Dutch (ANW), the Translation Vocabulary and the Word Combinations project. She co-authored the book A Frequency Dictionary (published by Routledge in 2014) together with Tanneke Schoonheim.
Additionally, Carole currently works on the European ELEXIS-project and she is actively involved in various COST Actions (e.g., enetCollect on crowdsourcing and learning languages and NexusLinguarum on ‘web-centered linguistic data science’). She and Jan Odijk (Utrecht University) form the Technical National Anchor Point for the ELRC-project. Carole is one of the trustees of the Adam Kilgariff Prize and a member of the advisory board of the Slovene-Hungarian Dictionary, published by the University of Ljubljana.
